NWFL Unveils 2025/2026 Season Kick-Off

Port Harcourt, Rivers – The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially set the stage for an exhilarating 2025/2026 Premiership season, announcing a kick-off date of November 26, 2025, following the conclusion of its Annual General Assembly (AGA) held on Wednesday, October 29, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The announcement was made via a communiqué on Thursday, captioned: “ICYMI: COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 2025 NWFL ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY”.

The AGA, hosted at the Golden Tulip Hotel, brought together stakeholders to shape the future of women’s football in Nigeria.

The 2025/2026 NWFL Premiership will commence on November 26, 2025, with a Christmas break from December 17, 2025, to January 6, 2026, resuming on January 7, 2026, and concluding on April 22, 2026. The opening Star Match will pit defending champions Bayelsa Queens against bronze winners Edo Queens at Samson Siasia Stadium.

The 20-team Premiership will retain its two-group structure (Groups A and B), with 10 teams per group, determined by a seeding draw. Notable teams include Bayelsa Queens (Group A) and Nasarawa Amazons (Group B).

Four Championship clubs—Ahudiyannem Queens, Sunshine Queens, Castmog Ladies, and Imo Striker Queens—have been promoted to the Premiership, while four Nationwide teams—Dreamstar Ladies, Rangers Women, Solo Wonders, and Rosaria Victrix—move to the Championship.

For the 2025/2026 season, six teams will be relegated from the Premiership, with plans to reduce the top tier to 16 clubs by the 2026/2027 season.

The introduction of an online registration system for the Premiership and a mandate for clubs to submit annual financial reports were hailed as steps toward professionalism and transparency.

The Congress expressed appreciation to NFF President and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for their support in hosting the event.

The season opener on November 26 will feature exciting matchups, including:

Group A: Bayelsa Queens vs. Edo Queens, Adamawa Queens vs. Pacesetters Queens, and others.

Group B: Nasarawa Amazons vs. Delta Queens, Sunshine Queens vs. Robo Queens, and more.
