Edo empowers persons with disabilities, vulnerable citizens with multi-million naira grants

Benin, Edo – The Office of the First Lady of Edo State has disbursed several million naira in cash grants to physically challenged individuals and vulnerable groups, in continuation of the state government’s drive for inclusive development and social justice.
The empowerment programme held on Tuesday at the Government House, Benin City, was coordinated by Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady.
Anani, represented by the Special Adviser to Governor Monday Okpebholo on Special Duties, Mrs. Betty Okonoboh restated the administration’s firm commitment to inclusive governance, declaring that “every individual matters, irrespective of status or physical condition.”
She described the initiative as part of sustained efforts to reduce hardship among the state’s most vulnerable populations.
Mrs. Anani, through her representative, urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, emphasising that prudent investment of the grants would create a multiplier effect capable of lifting entire families and communities.
Key beneficiaries include:
The Network for the Advancement of Persons with Visible Disabilities (NAPVID), which received ₦1,000,000 for the upkeep of the Bapbid Hostel, covering accommodation and welfare of students with disabilities from September to December 2025. The cheque was received by NAPVID representative, Teni Momodu.
Also, Mr. Orobosa Timothy Igbinomwanhia and Ms. Anna Ojugo, who each received ₦500,000.
Several other physically challenged and vulnerable individuals who were supported with varying cash amounts.
Recipients expressed heartfelt appreciation to the First Lady and the Edo State Government.
Mr. Orobosa Timothy Igbinomwanhia and Ms. Anna Ojugo described the intervention as a “timely lifeline” and promised to channel the funds into productive ventures, education, and healthcare.
The programme has been widely commended as a practical expression of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s people-centred policies and the administration’s determination to build a more inclusive and equitable Edo State.
