Orerokpe mini stadium abandoned despite N152 million disbursement

OREROKPE, Delta — A civic monitoring group has flagged the non-completion of a mini stadium project in Orerokpe, headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area, after public records showed over ₦152 million was disbursed for its construction.
In a post published Monday on X, Tracka, a project of BudgIT Nigeria stated that the Delta State Q4 Budget Implementation Report listed the disbursement for the “Construction of Mini Stadium at Orerokpe Okpe LGA.”
“We tracked and report that this project has not been done,” Tracka wrote
It added: “The stadium looked like abandoned structure, and has been this way for over 5 years. The sitting area has been overgrown with weeds and the roofs are completely damaged. At the time of reporting, we do not have the contractor’s details, only that over 150 million has been paid.”
Tracka called on the Delta State Sports Commission, the implementing agency, to “provide the public with details of how funds disbursed to this project was used.”
Budget documents from recent years have repeatedly listed line items for a related works at the abandoned Orerokpe mini stadium including construction and synthetic turf installation, though many entries show minimal or zero performance in available quarterly reports.
Residents and sports stakeholders in Okpe LGA have long expressed interest in functional grassroots sporting infrastructure to support youth development in the area.
The case underscores ongoing challenges with project execution, transparency, and accountability in public infrastructure spending in Delta State.
Tracka continues to urge citizens to demand updates and proper utilization of funds allocated for community projects.
