Akwa Ibom flood victims receive relief materials

Uyo, Akwa Ibom - The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), under the Federal Government’s Special Intervention program, has commenced the distribution of essential relief materials to victims of the 2025 floods in the Ibiono Ibom/Itu Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State.
The initiative, announced on Thursday, aims to alleviate the suffering of affected communities following the devastating floods that have displaced families and disrupted livelihoods.
Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, Head of Operations for NEMA in Akwa Ibom, led the distribution exercise, expressing deep sympathy for the victims.
Speaking to the press, she urged the beneficiaries to accept the relief materials with gratitude, emphasizing the federal government’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts.
The relief items, which include food supplies, clothing, medical kits, and other essentials, are intended to cushion the immediate impact of the flooding on the affected population.
Chief Emmanuel Akra, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked NEMA and the federal government for their timely intervention.
"This gesture will go a long way in helping us rebuild our lives," he said, reflecting the sentiments of many in the community who have faced significant losses due to the floods.
Mr. Ime Okon, the member representing Ibiono Ibom/Itu Federal Constituency, also commended NEMA and the federal government for their prompt response. He highlighted the importance of such support in fostering resilience among his constituents, many of whom have been left homeless or without means of sustenance following the disaster.
