Ikeja, Lagos – The Lagos State Government has announced a landmark $9 billion investment package for 2026, targeting climate resilience, flood control, and sustainable infrastructure to shield Africa’s most populous city from escalating environmental threats.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu revealed the plan during the 2025 Lagos Resilience Strategy Summit, emphasizing proactive adaptation amid rising sea levels, urban flooding, and heat stress.

Key projects include expanding the Eko Resilience City blueprint, upgrading drainage networks in flood-prone areas like Lekki and Ajegunle, and constructing green corridors along major highways.

The funding will blend state revenue, federal support, and international climate finance, with partnerships already in motion with the World Bank and African Development Bank.

Implementation begins Q1 2026.Environmental advocates have hailed the scale, though calling for transparent execution and community inclusion to ensure benefits reach vulnerable residents.
