Ibadan, Nigeria – In a strategic move to turbocharge economic integration across Nigeria's bustling Southwest, the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has inked a collaboration pact with the Southwest Development Commission (SWDC).

The partnership targets holistic advancement in infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital, signaling a united front for the region's 50 million-plus residents amid national fiscal strains.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed Thursday in Ibadan by DAWN's Executive Director, Mrs. Bunmi Oke, and SWDC's Acting Director-General, Mr. Kolawole Fagbemi, pledges joint initiatives under the "S'West Development" banner.

Key pillars include revamping transport corridors like the Lagos-Ibadan rail extension, boosting agro-processing hubs in Oyo and Osun, and skill-up programs for youth in Ondo and Ekiti.

"This isn't duplication, it's amplification," Oke emphasized in the report, noting DAWN's think-tank role will feed policy insights to SWDC's N500 billion federal-backed war chest.

The alliance draws from the Southwest's N20 trillion GDP contribution—40% of Nigeria's total yet grapples with disparities: Ekiti's 25% unemployment contrasts Lagos' tech boom. Early wins? A pilot digital marketplace linking Ogun's farmers to Ekiti processors, slated for Q1 2026 launch.

This pact echoes DAWN's 2013 origins as a post-amalgamation revival tool, now supercharged by SWDC's 2024 establishment amid calls for zonal equity.

Critics, including fiscal watchdogs, flag overlap risks, but backers eye N2 trillion in ripple investments.

As Oke put it: "United, the Southwest rises, not just survives."
