Benin, Edo – In a historic move for gender inclusion in the Nigeria Police Force, the Edo State Police Command has appointed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem as its first-ever female Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

‎The deployment mark a significant milestone for the Command and the Force at large.

‎ASP Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, takes over from CSP Joel Yamu, who served as PPRO from July 2024 until his recent redeployment.

‎A graduate of the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) with a Bachelor’s degree in English, ASP Ikoedem is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

‎She has undergone several specialized trainings in security, investigation, and public relations.

‎Prior to her new role, she served as Deputy PPRO under two successive Police Public Relations Officers in the Command, where she demonstrated professionalism, diligence, and strong media engagement skills.

‎ASP Ikoedem has since assumed duty and pledged to build on the achievements of her predecessors while fostering stronger synergy between the police and the public through transparent and timely communication.

‎Women’s rights advocates and civil society groups in Edo State have welcomed the appointment, describing it as a step forward in breaking gender barriers in Nigeria’s security architecture.

‎The new PPRO is expected to bring fresh energy to public engagement as the Command continues its fight against crime and efforts to improve community-police relations in Edo State.
