Benin, Edo – Engr Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, has lauded the foresight of Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki for the setting up of FOBs in strategic places in the state to arrest the rising insecurity in the state

Omobayo, appointed as deputy governor by Obaseki also applauded the authorities of the Nigerian Army for its express approval to Governor Obaseki’s request to build a Forwarding Operations Base, FOB, in Akoko-Edo.

This is even as Omobayo stated that siting of an Army FOB in Akoko-Edo will strengthen the State security architecture in protecting lives and property.

He spoke on the sidelines of the official commissioning of the newly-built Nigerian Army Forwarding Operations Base at Ehor, the administrative headquarters of Uhunwode Local Government Area of the state, executed by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

According to Omobayo, Akoko-Edo occupies a very strategic location because of being a border area with its neighbouring states of Ondo and Kogi.

He said Edo State as the Heartbeat of Nigeria provides the gateway to the West, East and Northern parts of the country, and as such, siting an Army base in Akoko-Edo would go a long way in checkmating crime and criminality, especially from the Kogi axis of the Benin-Lokoja expressway.

He commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for giving priority to the security and safety of the citizens.

He added: “The primary responsibility of any responsible government is to protect lives and property of the citizens. This is the reason Mr Governor has always worked hard to ensure every nook and cranny of the state is adequately secured.”
