Okpebholo dissolves state's commissions as Edo Assembly clears revenue board, LG service commission nominees

Benin, Edo – The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has dissolved all Commissions in Edo State Government Public Service with immediate effect.

Specifically, the commissions include the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, the Civil Service Commission, Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission, Edo State Forestry Commission, the House of Assembly Service Commission, the State Audit Service Commission and the Judicial Service Commission, a statement on Tuesday by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government said.

The statement therefore urged chairmen and members of the Commissions to handover all Government properties in their possession to the most senior public officer in their Commission.

Meanwhile, the state house of assembly has confirmed Oladele Bankole-Balogun's nomination, as the Chairman of the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, alongside three other members, Patrick Idiake, Hon. Michael Ohio-Ezomo, and Engr. Jackson Eribo.

The confirmation comes after a thorough screening process, which finds the nominees to possess the requisite qualifications and experience for their roles.

According to Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian, Majority Leader and Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Rules, Business and Government House, the nominees have demonstrated their ability to deliver on their responsibilities.

The confirmation process involved the presentation of screening reports, a motion to dissolve into the committee of the whole, and a subsequent vote.

In addition to the Board of Internal Revenue confirmations, the House also approved the Local Government Service Commission nominees, including Hon. Damian Lawani as chairman, Comr. Francis Akhigbe, Chief Emmanuel Iyase, and Benjamin John.

The House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, directed that proof of clearances be sent to the Governor for further action.

The Assembly also addressed a petition from the Nigeria Labour Congress and Edo State Civil Society Community regarding the death of Comrade Anthony Kaduna Eboigbodin, allegedly caused by unprofessional police action.

The petition was referred to the House Standing Committee on Public Petitions for investigation within three weeks.

Following the State House of Assembly's clearance on Monday of the nominees, Governor Monday Okpebholo is expected to swear in Oladele Bankole-Balogun as Chairman of the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, alongside members Patrick Idiake, Hon. Michael Ohio-Ezomo, and Engr. Jackson Eribo as well as Local government service commission, Sports commission and Permanent Secretary, on Tuesday.
