Delta rep member seeks federal funding for palace completion

WARRI, Delta – The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, has reaffirmed his commitment towards completion of the palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Owhoru I.

Oyibode which made this known during a site inspection last Friday, at Otor-Udu was accompanied by Hon. Rev. Waive Ejiroghene Francis, member representing Udu, Ughelli South, and Ughelli North constituencies at the Federal House of Representatives.

During the visit, Hon. Waive expressed his admiration for the project, acknowledging its scale and meticulous design. "I must admit, I was completely unaware of the scale and meticulous planning behind the palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom. This is an entirely new building, and I am pleasantly flabbergasted, even. Seeing this palace with my own eyes is truly gratifying," he said.

Hon. Waive praised the efforts behind the project and urged the sons and daughters of Udu Kingdom both at home and in diaspora to rally together and support its completion. "This palace is not just a symbol of pride for us but a unifying structure that showcases the vision of careful planning and execution. It is befitting of our king's status and a legacy we can all celebrate," he added. Waive also pledged to support the project by advocating for its inclusion in the federal budget.

High Chief Oyibode, while addressing stakeholders and Journalists, emphasized the urgency of completing the palace in time for the celebration of the king's 31st anniversary on the throne. "The completion of this magnificent palace is a matter of pride and necessity. The estimated cost for this project ranges between 250 to 300 million naira, which will cover essential tasks such as perimeter fencing, installation of gates, interior furnishing, painting, water systems, and equipping the halls and quarters," Oyibode stated.

He outlined the remaining tasks, including plastering administrative halls, interlocking work, electrical fittings, installation of electronics, screeding, and furnishing the king's residential quarters. Oyibode also highlighted ongoing efforts to clear the site, previously overgrown with weeds and inhabited by reptiles.

"This palace is a befitting symbol of our heritage and unity. It is designed to reflect the dignity of our king and serve as a functional hub for the Udu Kingdom, featuring halls, meeting rooms, and special quarters for the king and his household," Oyibode added.

The Chairman called on all stakeholders, Udu sons and daughters and well-wishers to contribute to the completion of the palace, expressing gratitude to Hon. Waive for his proactive support. "With collective effort, we can secure the remaining funds and ensure that our king takes his rightful place in this palace. This project will stand as a legacy for generations to come," he said.

The inspection concluded with renewed commitment from all parties to expedite the palace project and make it a source of pride for the Udu Kingdom.
