Olu of Warri: Traditional ruler suspends chiefs in Delta

Mosogar, Delta – Mosogar Kingdom was thrown into shock on Sunday as His Royal Majesty, Uduaka I, Ovie of Mosogar, announced the indefinite suspension of eight Chiefs accused of misrepresenting the kingdom at the 4th Coronation Anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The event, which held on August 21, 2025, reportedly had the Chiefs in attendance without the knowledge, consent, or official delegation of the Mosogar monarch, an act HRM Uduaka I described as a “betrayal of trust and gross insubordination.”

In a decisive move following an emergency palace meeting on August 24, the monarch declared that the suspensions were necessary to protect the integrity of Mosogar Kingdom and deter similar acts in future.

Those affected are Chief Felix Obokor Omene, Chief Vincent Okporua, Chief Oghenedoro America, Chief Blessing Agboma, Chief Ejiro Obayendo, Chief Omonigho Ojoko, Chief Enor Edekpo, and Chief Jackson Okudede.

While seven of them face indefinite suspension, Chief Blessing Agboma received the harshest sanction—he was derobbed, stripped of his title, and excommunicated from the Mosogar Council of Chiefs and Elders. The monarch stressed that Agboma must no longer be addressed as a Chief in the kingdom.

Similarly, Chief Oghenedoro America, who chairs the Mosogar Masquerade Dance, was directed to hand over leadership to his deputy pending the review of his suspension.

The monarch further forbade all affected Chiefs from adorning their traditional regalia, particularly the “Aghighor,” during the suspension period.

HRM Uduaka I said the kingdom’s image had been “battered and humiliated” by the actions of the suspended Chiefs, but expressed confidence that the sanctions would restore order, discipline, and respect for constituted authority in Mosogar Kingdom.
