Imo CP Vows Justice in Wake of Deadly Attack

Okigwe, Imo – The quiet community of Ajanaumuna in Ezinachi, Okigwe Local Government Area, was shattered on the night of August 22, 2025, when suspected IPOB/ESN assailants unleashed a brutal attack, claiming the lives of five residents and leaving a trail of destruction.

According to a statement on Monday issued by the Imo State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma has launched a relentless manhunt to bring the perpetrators to justice, vowing that the culprits will face the full weight of the law.

The attack, which occurred around 10:30 PM, targeted a local youth security team and villagers in a coordinated assault.

Edeh George, a dedicated member of the youth security outfit, was among the victims, alongside Emeka Ezeagwula, Chikodi Ezeagwula, Chidi Chileke, and Ejike Nwankwo.

The assailants, in a display of ruthless violence, gunned down the victims, set ablaze the residence of the youth security leader, and destroyed five motorcycles, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Police operatives responded swiftly to the distress call, rushing to the scene to evacuate the victims to General Hospital, Okigwe.

Tragically, doctors confirmed the five victims dead on arrival, and their remains were moved to the hospital mortuary.

One survivor, battling for life, is receiving medical treatment, with hopes for a full recovery.

CP Aboki Danjuma, who has taken personal charge of the operation, condemned the attack as a “heinous and senseless act.”

Leading a joint task force comprising the Command’s tactical teams, sister security agencies, and local vigilantes, he has intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators.

“No stone will be left unturned,” Danjuma declared, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.

In a heartfelt statement, the Commissioner offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and strength for their grieving families.

He also wished the surviving victim a speedy recovery, urging residents to remain calm as security has been bolstered across Okigwe and surrounding areas.

The Imo State Police Command has called on the public to assist in the ongoing investigation by providing credible information.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has deployed the Command’s tactical teams in synergy with other sister security agencies and local vigilantes, to hunt down the suspected IPOB/ESN miscreants responsible for the senseless attack that claimed the lives of five residents in Ajanaumuna, Ezinachi, Okigwe LGA, on 22nd August, 2025, at about 2230hrs.

During the attack, Edeh George ‘m’, a member of the local youth security team, together with four villagers identified as Emeka Ezeagwula ‘m’, Chikodi Ezeagwula ‘f’, Chidi Chileke ‘m’, and Ejike Nwankwo ‘m’, were fatally shot. The assailants further set ablaze the residence of the youth security leader and destroyed five motorcycles.

Upon receipt of the distress report, Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene and evacuated the victims to General Hospital, Okigwe, where doctors confirmed them dead on arrival. Their remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while one survivor is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, who is personally leading an intense operation in Okigwe alongside other security agencies, condemned the heinous act and assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice. He stressed that those behind the attack will be made to face the full weight of the law.

The CP also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased victims, wished the injured survivor a speedy recovery, and prayed that God grants the affected families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
