Oborevwori launches Kwale Free Trade Zone, signals economic boost for Delta

Kwale, Delta – Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has formally performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kwale Free Trade Zone (KFTZ), marking a significant milestone in the state’s economic development agenda.

The event, held on Tuesday at the expansive 1,000-hectare site in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, underscores the government’s commitment to industrial growth, job creation, and investment attraction.

The ceremony, attended by a cross-section of stakeholders including traditional rulers, government officials, and representatives from the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), featured the unveiling of the zone’s master plan and the commencement of construction activities.

Governor Oborevwori expressed satisfaction at fulfilling a campaign promise, noting that eight firms are already on site, ready to commence operations.

"It was a promise made and a promise kept, as I formally performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kwale Free Trade Zone (KFTZ). The Zone sits on an expanse of approximately 1,000 hectares of land, with room for expansion. I’m pleased to share that eight firms are already on site to commence operations.", Governor Oborevwori stated on X

The governor commended NEPZA for approving the development of both the Kwale and Koko Free Trade Zones, highlighting their potential as game-changers for Delta State’s economy.

He also acknowledged the support of Brig.-Gen. Mike Ndubisi (Rtd.), Chairman of the Delta State Economic Zone (DSEZ), the management team, and the Ndokwa community for their cooperation.

The KFTZ is expected to serve as a hub for industrial activities, leveraging its strategic location and infrastructure to attract both local and foreign investors.

Governor Oborevwori urged the youth of Delta State to capitalize on the opportunities the zone will provide, emphasizing its role in fostering economic diversification and reducing unemployment.

The Kwale Free Trade Zone is anticipated to not only boost the local economy but also position Delta State as a key player in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.
