Joy unbounded as Enugu community coronates new Igwe

Nsukka, Enugu – The Ibagwa Ani Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State erupted in jubilation and excitement on Monday, December 29, 2025, as His Royal Majesty, Igwe Cyril Nwabunwanne Asogwa, was officially coronated as the new traditional ruler, bearing the title Ibagwa 1 of Ibagwa Ani Ancient Kingdom.

The coronation ceremony, marked by pomp, pageantry, and rich cultural displays, filled a three-year vacancy on the throne and was hailed as a landmark event due to the peaceful and rancour-free election process that led to Igwe Asogwa's selection, the first of its kind in the community in recent times.

The event commenced with a Holy Mass, symbolizing the new monarch's deep reverence for God.

Rev. Fr. Mathew Ezea of the Nsukka Catholic Diocese, an indigene of Ibagwa Ani, praised the peaceful emergence of Igwe Asogwa, thanking God for guiding the community through a harmonious selection process.In his remarks, the newly coronated Igwe Asogwa expressed profound gratitude to his people for deeming him worthy of the stool and pledged to lead with unity, peace, and development.

The Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu (Traditional Ruler of Edem Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom), congratulated the new Igwe and commended the community for conducting a transparent election.

He also lauded Governor Peter Mbah for endorsing the process and for his administration's transformative infrastructure and governance strides since 2023.

The coronation, performed by Atama Nkpunator Edoga Cyprain Asogwa, drew dignitaries, community leaders, and well-wishers, underscoring the significance of the occasion for the ancient kingdom's future.

Residents described the day as one of unbounded joy, marking a new era of peace and progress under Igwe Cyril Nwabunwanne Asogwa's leadership.
