Police confirms murder of man, hunts for lesbian daughter

Benin, Edo – A police investigative report dated October 3, 2025, has unequivocally confirmed that one Osadebamwen was indeed murdered in Benin City on March 25, 2021, by individuals suspected to be affiliated with a notorious cult organization.

The report highlighted that the tragic incident had earlier been reported at the Dumez Road Police Station in Benin City on 26th March,2921 but no further action was taken to unravel the identities of the killers and possibly bring them to justice.

The daughter of the deceased, Osadebamwen Benedicta had told the police that a group of persons invaded her father's home in Benin City at about 2am on March 25, 2021. She said her father had been threatened severally by a prominent Chief and politician from whom he borrowed money at a high interest rate the previous year.

She alleged that the attackers were agents of the Shylock money lender.

"They came armed with dangerous weapons. The attackers were enraged and threatened to kill everyone in the house. They beat my father mercilessly and destroyed properties in the house. They eventually killed my father in the chaos and attempted to take me hostage. I was lucky to have escaped", she told the police.

However, the police in their investigation report, said Osadebamwen Benedicta and her partner, Joy fled to Obozogbe village in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo state in the aftermath of the 26th March 2021 attack, apparently to escape danger.

The report however revealed that both ladies were indicted for engaging in illicit sexual activities (lesbianism).

The duo were allegedly caught by some inhabitants of Obozogbe village while engaging in sexual acts considered offensive and forbidden in the community.

The report said both Benedicta and Joy have been declared wanted while efforts are on to track down the killers of her father.

Lesbianism or same sex marriage/relationship is considered a taboo and forbidden in Nigerian communities.

It is also a criminal offense in Nigeria. The 2014 anti-same sex law prescribes between 10 to 14 years to anyone found guilty by the law court.
