Group exposes diversion, abandonment of N265.3m Project in Reps dep speaker’s Bende

Bende, Abia – A civil society organisation dedicated to tracking public projects, TrackaNG has raised serious red flags over the handling of a 2024 federal budget project meant to benefit students in Bende Secondary Grammar School.

In a detailed field investigation released on Friday, TrackaNG revealed that the “construction and furnishing of an ultra-modern conference and e-learning facility” budgeted for the school has been diverted to an entirely different location.

According to TrackaNG, N265.3 million has already been disbursed to contractor Muslac Techno Company Limited since December 2025. Yet, officials at Bende Secondary Grammar School told the team they were completely unaware of any such project on their premises.

Instead, the site was relocated to an isolated spot in Ọnụ Inyang community along the Bende-Ohafia express road.

When TrackaNG visited, no construction workers were present. The site showed partial blockwork, scattered building materials, and a black water tank, but the entire area was already being overtaken by grass and bushes clear signs of prolonged inactivity despite the huge sum released over six months ago.

In an open letter to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who represents the Bende Federal Constituency, TrackaNG demanded urgent answers as to why was the project moved away from the original beneficiary school?, who approved the relocation? and what justifies the N265.3 million already paid for such minimal visible progress?

The group has called on the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (the implementing agency), as well as anti-corruption bodies EFCC and ICPC, to immediately investigate the project and ensure public funds deliver value to the intended community.
