Dilapidated PHC Puts Lives at Risk in Anambra Community

Neni, Anambra – A citizens’ advocacy group, Tracka has raised alarm over the severely dilapidated state of the Neni Primary Health Centre (PHC) Umuabani, warning that residents who cannot afford private hospitals in the area face serious health risks.
In a post on X Monday, Tracka highlighted the facility’s poor condition, which has reportedly persisted since 2023, noting that the centre serves over 14,000 people in Neni Ward, with more than half the population said to be unable to afford private medical care.
The post states there is no functional medical equipment, describing the overall state as “completely deplorable.”
Tracka has called on relevant authorities to act urgently.
Primary Health Centres like this one form the foundation of Nigeria’s healthcare system, especially in rural and semi-urban communities. When they fall into disrepair, the burden shifts to already strained private facilities or leaves the poorest residents without adequate care.
This situation underscores broader challenges facing many Primary Health Care facilities across Nigeria, where funding, maintenance, and equipping remain recurring issues despite various federal and state interventions.
