Abandoned N379 Million Kalu’s sponsored project at Abia School Raises Accountability Concerns

Umuahia, Abia State – A civic monitoring group has flagged the apparent abandonment of a multi-million naira federal project intended to provide an ultra-modern conference and e-learning facility at Alayi Senior Secondary School in Abia State, despite substantial payment to a contractor last December.

According to a post by TrackaNG on Tuesday, N379.3 million was paid in December 2025 to ARIBOSAR VENTURES LTD for the “Construction & Furnishing of Ultra Modern Conference & E-learning Facility” at the school.

When Tracka tracked the site in April 2026, monitors found only a small building had been constructed and plastered, as the structure has reportedly remained untouched since the payment, with no further visible activity by the contractor.

TrackaNG shared photographs from the location with the images depicting a partially built structure far from the promised “ultra-modern” conference and e-learning facility, with work appearing to have halted months ago.

TrackaNG called on the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology to release full project details and mobilize the contractor back to site to complete the work.

Tracka has repeatedly highlighted abandoned or poorly executed federal projects across Nigeria, with Abia State frequently ranking high in such reports.

Earlier 2026 analyses by the group found that a significant portion of tracked abandoned federal projects were concentrated in states including Abia, despite funds having been disbursed.

Open Treasury records confirm payments linked to a similar or the same project description at Alayi Senior Secondary School around December 2025, though some Tracka references cite Conwems Integrated Services Limited as the recipient of approximately N355 million.

ARIBOSAR VENTURES LTD (RC 1171427), incorporated in 2014, has been linked by Tracka to other Abia projects in previous tracking exercises.

The project signboard credits Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu as sponsor.

Kalu, a prominent APC lawmaker from Bende in Abia, has been vocal about constituency development.

As of June 23, 2026, there has been no public response from the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Conwems Integrated Services Limited, Aribosar Ventures Ltd, or the sponsor’s office.

This latest report adds to ongoing national conversations about value for money in capital projects, procurement integrity, and the persistent challenge of abandoned or stalled government initiatives particularly in education and infrastructure.
