“False alarm”, Police Debunk Bandit Invasion in Delta community

Asaba, Delta – The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports of armed bandits invading Ibusa community in Oshimili North Local Government Area as a false alarm.

The clarification came after a video showing students in school uniforms running along a road in apparent panic circulated widely on social media.

A post by social media user @Uno_009 claimed that “bandits are in Ibusa, Delta State,” alleging that students were seen fleeing home from school.

The accompanying video depicted dozens of students in white shirts and dark uniforms hurrying or running along a paved road in a residential area, with motorbikes visible and a sense of urgency in the footage.

SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, directly addressed the claims in a post quoting the original video. He stated: “This was a false alarm. Ibusa residents can confirm this as well. Let’s avoid spreading falsehood rumours just to cause panic. It does no good to us collectively.”

Ibusa has experienced security challenges in recent months, including cult-related clashes and security operations.

In early June 2026, troops from the 63 Brigade under Operation Delta Safe recovered arms and motorcycles during a raid in the community based on credible intelligence.

However, no official reports from police or military have confirmed any bandit invasion or attack on schools or residents at the time of writing this report.

Similar incidents of false security alerts causing panic have been reported in other parts of Nigeria recently, highlighting the rapid spread of unverified videos and claims on social media.

The police emphasized that such rumours can cause unnecessary fear, disrupt daily activities including schooling, and strain security resources.
