INEC to launch self-service online portal July 8

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks and introduced a groundbreaking online self-service option to make voter registration more accessible ahead of future elections, including the 2027 general polls.
In a press release issued during the week, INEC announced that the nationwide CVR, originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, has now been extended to Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The decision follows a review of the exercise and feedback from state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.
In a major innovation, INEC will launch a self-service online registration platform for eligible first-time voters starting Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
Eligible Nigerians aged 18 and above will be able to initiate and complete their registration including form submission, biometric capture, and verification using personal devices from home, without visiting an INEC office.
The service will be available via INEC’s dedicated CVR portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org, which also provides a step-by-step guide.
Physical registration centres will remain open for all categories of voters, including transfers, updates, and replacements of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
DAILY South Nigeria recall that the CVR exercise resumed in phases starting in 2025 to continuously update the voter register, even as the extension and digital initiative have been welcomed by many Nigerians, particularly young people, who see it as a game-changer for boosting youth participation in the electoral process.
This development comes as Nigeria prepares for upcoming off-cycle elections and the 2027 general elections.
