Circular road demolition victims begs Oyo governor, Makinde to hasten compensation

Ona-ara, Oyo – Victims of the Circular Road demolition in Ona-Ara Local Government Area have urged Governor Seyi Makinde to expedite the payment of compensation approved for property owners whose houses were affected.
Speaking on behalf of the affected residents, Engr. Jimoh Ahmed, a leader of the Omission Group, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for approving compensation, especially for structures demolished in 2023.
However, he appealed for urgent action on the actual disbursement, noting that the prolonged delay has caused significant hardship.
“Many victims have fallen ill, while others have reportedly died while waiting for the payment of their compensation,” Ahmed said.
The group also commended the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters and retired Commissioner of Police, Compol Sunday Odukoya, for his consistent support and accessibility.
According to Ahmed, Odukoya has always attended to the concerns of the victims during their visits to the State Secretariat.
Ahmed explained that a recent peaceful protest by some affected residents was sparked by rumours that compensation had already been paid to beneficiaries.
He appealed for public understanding regarding the demonstration and reaffirmed the group’s support for the state government.
The victims’ leader expressed optimism that the compensation would be disbursed soon, promising that beneficiaries would return to express appreciation to Governor Makinde once their entitlements are received.
The Circular Road project in Ona-Ara LGA forms part of broader infrastructure development efforts in Oyo State aimed at improving connectivity and urban planning.
While the state government has previously assured affected residents of fair compensation, the delay in payments continues to generate concern among the victims.
As of now, there has been no official reaction from the state government to the latest appeal.
