Omokaro Urges Edo Govt to Resume Benin–Abraka Road Project, Address Infrastructure Deficits in Orhionmwon

Abudu, Edo – Grassroots development advocate, Comrade Raymond Omokaro, JP, has called on the Edo State Government to urgently resume and complete the reconstruction of the Benin–Abraka Road, describing the project as vital for the economic and social progress of communities in Orhionmwon Local Government Area.
In a public appeal, Omokaro highlighted the plight of residents who rely on the deteriorating road for daily commuting, business activities, and access to neighbouring communities, noting that, the road, originally a federal project, was taken over by the Edo State Government during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Although the contract was awarded before the end of that administration, work has since stalled, leaving commuters to grapple with poor road conditions.
“The people of Orhionmwon are peaceful and industrious. They deserve greater attention from the government, especially in the area of basic infrastructure,” Omokaro said.
He urged the state government to direct the contractor back to the site and ensure timely completion of the project, emphasising that a functional road network would ease transportation challenges, boost local businesses, and stimulate economic growth in the area.
Beyond the road project, Omokaro drew attention to other critical infrastructure deficits in Orhionmwon communities, including erratic electricity supply, limited access to potable water, and inadequate educational facilities. He argued that sustained rural development is key to improving living standards and curbing rural-urban migration.
The advocate also expressed disappointment over what he termed inadequate representation by elected officials at both state and federal levels, saying the developmental needs of the people have not received deserved priority.
With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, Omokaro appealed to residents to rise above party lines and vote for leaders with proven integrity, competence, compassion, and a genuine commitment to the development of Orhionmwon LGA.
He recalled the area’s history of producing notable leaders, including a former Deputy Governor and a former Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, but lamented that many communities still face significant infrastructural deficits despite this political legacy.
Omokaro expressed optimism that the concerns raised would be addressed promptly and called on government officials and political representatives to collaborate in delivering sustainable development for the benefit of Orhionmwon residents.
