Viral CCTV Footage Highlights Persistent Insecurity in Edo State as Critic Accuses Governor of Prioritizing Politics Over Safety

Benin, Edo – A video circulating on X has reignited public debate over rising crime and insecurity in Edo State, showing what appears to be a brazen daytime home invasion and robbery.

The footage, posted by user @Sir_osas on Sunday, July 19, 2026, has drawn attention to what the poster describes as underreported criminal activities, including kidnappings, break-ins, and armed robberies.

In the post, @Sir_osas wrote: “This is a constant thing in edo state, the insecurities is under reported. The clueless D7 is only concerned about giving tinubu 2.5m votes. And feels the safety of the people and properties aren’t his priorities. How long can we continue like this?”

Edo State has faced ongoing challenges with kidnapping, cult-related violence, armed robbery, and home invasions in recent months.

The state government under Governor Monday Okpebholo (APC) has responded with initiatives such as “Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultism,” collaboration with traditional rulers for community intelligence, directives for businesses to install CCTV cameras, and calls for governors nationwide to take greater ownership of local security rather than relying solely on the federal government.

Governor Okpebholo has publicly emphasized shared responsibility for security, noting that President Bola Tinubu cannot be in every state at once, and has sought support from traditional institutions while highlighting efforts against cultism and kidnapping.
